In a significant discovery, forest personnel from the Aambadi range have found a rare species of bamboo rat. The discovery occurred when local residents in Panashguri village, adjacent to the Baikunthpur forest in Rajganj block, spotted a large rat on the riverbanks. Upon receiving this information, forest workers were alerted, and they managed to capture the rare species of bamboo rat.
The Forest Department has confirmed that this is indeed a rare species of rat, often referred to as the Bamboo Rat. These rats are typically found inhabiting bamboo trees in highland regions spanning from southeast Nepal to southern China, Myanmar, and Thailand. Notably, this discovery marks the first sighting of this unique species in the Baikunthpur forest area.
